The money paid for COVID-19 tests by travellers coming into Nigeria does not go to the Federal Government or any of its agencies.
The Director General, NCDC, Dr. Chike Ihekweazu said a small fraction of such funds go to state governments where the tests are carried out.
He also defended the charges saying those who choose to travel must be ready to pay. He however said tests for coronavirus remains free for all who reside in the country.
The coordinator of PTF, Dr. Sanni Aliyu said no fewer than 27,000 people have arrived Nigeria since the airports were reopened. Of the lot 85% had no problem with their arrival protocols, he said even as he blamed technical hitches for some challenges recorded.
“We do sympathise with the frustrations travellers go through at the airports,” he said but urged Nigerians to get used to electronic management as opposed to manual systems at the airports.
