Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, and Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU, have protested delay in implementing a   court judgement and other pressing issues.

The
unions are demanding the implementation of the judgement of the National
Industrial Court regarding universities staff school teachers’ enrolment on
government payroll, earned allowances and re-negotiation of the 2009 agreement.

The
Chairman of SSANU, Mr Wale Akinremi, who spoke on behalf of the two unions at
the Univrsity of Ibadan, urged the Federal Government to respond to their
demand to avert an impending strike.

Akinremi
said the protest became imperative after futile attempts to draw government’s attention
to their plight.

“The other time we protested, the National
Assembly attempted to intervene in the matter, unfortunately there was a security
breach in Abuja on that day. Since then, we have not gotten any message from
them.

“Again,
we were supposed to have a meeting with the Ministry of Education last week but
it was postponed without any reason. That is why we are here today,” he said.
