Trailer crushes woman going to church in Kogi

An unidentified woman was on Sunday morning crushed to death by an articulated vehicle (trailer), in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

Eyewitness accounts said the trailer,  conveying tomato produce to the eastern part of the country, crashed into the commercial tricycle boarded by the deceased who was believed to be heading for church service.

The trailer reportedly veered off its lane and rammed into the tricycle which was conveying three passengers, including the female victim. The other passengers and the tri-cyclist were said to have sustained serious injuries.

The accident which occurred close to the Confluence Beach Hotel, along the Ganaja road, soon turned more awry, as an angry mob gathered and set the trailer ablaze even as men of the Federal Roads Safety Corp made frantic efforts to salvage the situation.

Other trailer drivers became cautious as they parked their vehicles long away from the scene of the accident to observe the unfolding events, while other motorists were being diverted to one lane on the dual carriageway.

The police has taken position at the scene to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
