Newsmen escape death as politicians trade blame in Bayelsa

A boat conveying
journalists in Bayelsa State was reported to have capsized.

The journalists
were returning from the polling station when the boat sailing across the
flooded parts of Sampou community on Nun River in Kolokuma Opokuma Local
Government Area of Bayelsa capsized and threw its four occupants into the
water.

Valuable items
belonging to the journalists were soaked in water but residents of the
community ensured they came out alive..

Route leading to
polling units 4, Ward 6, where the People’s Democratic Party candidate, Douye
Diri voted was reportedly flooded.

 The All
Progressive Congress, APC, has alleged that the People’s Democratic Party hijacked
election materials before the commencement of the election in Bayelsa.

The Deputy
National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Yekini Diri said on his official
Twitter handle that the PDP thugs were shooting sporadically in the area and
made away with the materials for Ward 3,4,7,9 and 11.

However,
residents of the capital city had been in fear when some suspected political
thugs dressed in military uniforms were allegedly distributing guns to young
men to instigate violence in the election.
