Ghana varsity disclaims Coronavirus vaccine

The management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, in Kumasi has debunked media reports claiming that its students have discovered a vaccine to cure Coronavirus.
The report, which went viral on the social media, claimed that students of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of the university made the purported discovery.
The story added that an eight-member medical student team from KNUST under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Israel Nluki completed works on the vaccine last week but travelled to Ivory Coast when the first case of coronavirus was reported in the country.
KNUST in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe however dismissed the report, urging the general public to regard the publication.
“The attention of the management of KNUST Kumasi has been drawn to the above headline circulating on social media on Monday 27th January 2020.
“However, a quick check with the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Professor Berko Panyin Anto on the above news reveals that such discovery has occurred.
“Again, we wish to state that the person alleged to have supervised the purported, Prof. Dr. Israel Nluks has no affiliations with KNUST”, Bekoe said.
