The Federal Government has postponed the 2020 National Sports Festival, NSF, scheduled to hold between Sunday, March 22 and Wednesday, April 1 in Edo State.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, made this known in a series of tweets on his twitter handle on Tuesday.
He said the postponement was made after his discussion with President Muhammadu Buhari over the spread of the novel coronavirus.
“Following the briefing of Mr. President from myself and the Minister of State for Health, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora on COVID-19, Mr. President approved the immediate postponement of Edo Sports Festival to a future date,” he tweeted.
He said over 11,000 athletes were expected to participate in the 20th sports festival, noting that it was safer to be on the side of caution than take the risk of proceeding with the event.
