Conscious of a renewed wave of coronavirus infection in Europe, the Federal Government is stepping up efforts to vaccinate more Nigerians.
A vaccination drive will be launched this Friday by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, with the mission to vaccinate half of the Nigerian population by end of January 2022.
The SGF and Chairman PSC on Covid-19, Boss Mustapha said the country has about half a million doses of vaccines in stock and promised that more consignments are expected from sundry sources.
The DG, NCDC, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa praised the national efforts to contain Covid-19 even as he declared that a lot of work lies ahead to attain herd immunity.
He said efforts are ongoing to ensure wider surveillance and more testing across the country.
He disclosed that 81% of those who died of Covid-19 in the last two months were not vaccinated and advised every citizen to get vaccinated.
The ED, NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaib disclosed that only 2.9 million Nigerians have been fully vaccinated out of an eligible population of 111.8 million.
He said the agency’s vaccination drive will be taken to public places including educational and religious institutions.
