The former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has debunked claims of arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Fani-Kayode was on Tuesday a guest of the EFCC, spokesman of the agency, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed to newsmen.
He was arrested and taken to the Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC over allegations of fraud, including forgery.
The anti-graft agency had in 2016 arraigned Fani-Kayode, a member of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential campaign team, alongside Nenadi Usman, a former Minister of State for Finance, on a 17-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering and diversion of N4.9 billion.
Fani-Kayode’s arrest comes weeks after he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
However, hours after news of his arrest hit the public space, Femi Fani-Kayode took to his Twitter handle to debunk his arrest.
“I was never arrested by the EFCC, I was invited and I flew to Lagos to see them.
“I was invited and flew down to Lagos to see them. I arrived in their office at 2.00 pm and left at 8:30 pm,” he said.
FFK, as he is fondly called disclosed that he was invited by the EFCC, but was granted bail on self-recognition.
“They were very polite and professional. Thanks be to God.”
