Edo politicians sign peace accord ahead Saturday election

With the Edo State governorship election barely four days away, candidates of 14 political parties contesting the election have signed a Peace Accord in Benin, promising to keep the peace during and after the election on 19 September.

The peace parley which is organised by the National Peace Committee had inĀ attendance the Chairman, National Peace Committee and former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar; convener of the committee and Catholic Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah; Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, prof. Mahmood Yakubu and a representative of the Inspector General of Police.

The chairmen and candidates of political parties traditional and religious circles were at the eventĀ  held at the Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre, Benin.

The event climaxed when Governor Godwin Obaseki and his closest rival Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu embraced and shook hands to the admiration of participants and guests.
