Army pleads for cooperation in stopping insurgents

The Commander Guards Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier Gen. Mohammed Takuti Usman has pleaded with the residents of Mararaba/Nyanya to bear with the current transportation inconveniences caused by military blockade.

In a media parley at the Brigade Conference Hall, Aguyi Ironsi Cantonment, Abuja, the Commander noted that collective effort is required if the country must overcome its security challenges.

The interaction with the media was meant to address areas of cooperation considering the current security happenings around the FCT and its environs, and the vital roles the media play in ensuring a safe and secured society.

He asked that the newsmen lend their voices in the fight against insecurity by using their various platforms to disseminate true, prompt, and timely reports.

Speaking on the ongoing stop and search operations at the Mararaba/Nyanya axis, which caused heavy gridlock on Wednesday morning, extending to Thursday and causing many workers and motorists to turn back, the Brigade Commander stated that it was to ensure the safety of residents.

He disclosed that the military was acting on credible intelligence, adding that the checkpoints would be dismantled after the issues must have been adequately addressed.

He also added that while authorities are aware of the effect on residents, motorists, and other road users of the security points mounted by the soldiers, the security of the FCT and its residents was crucial, asking that the public bear with the temporary inconvenience.
