Aisha Alhassan ‘Mama Taraba’ dies at 61

Taraba State has lost a colourful politician as Aisha Alhassan dies from an undisclosed ailment.

Popularly known as Mama Taraba, she was a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC before defecting to the United Democratic Party in September 2018, resigning as a minister from the Buhari administration.

The deceased battled a protracted illness in her last years. She was born 16 September, 1959.

Alhassan contested the Taraba 2015 governorship election under the Platform of the APC but lost to incumbent Governor Darius Ishaku, who ran under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party.

Shortly after her loss, President Muhammadu Buhari named her Minister of Women Affairs.

However, she left under controversial circumstances as the APC failed to clear her for the 2019 gubernatorial election.
