Okada riders protest seizure of motorcycles in Lagos

Commercial motorcycle riders, popularly known as Okada riders, on Friday December 1 protested against the seizure of their motorcycles by the Lagos State Task Force Team.

The protest started after the taskforce dislodged the Okada riders, seized their bikes and took them into their van in the Alakija area of the State.

The Okada riders took to the street in response to the crackdown setting a bonfire on the road as the van carrying the seized motorcycles departed from the scene.

However, policemen who arrived at the scene deployed teargas against the protesters.

Recall that the Lagos State government had placed a ban on the use of motorcycles on all major expressways in the State.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, had also urged the riders to stay off the roads as crushing exercise and enforcement would be implemented.
