FG moving towards e-governance

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to support and reposition Galaxy Backbone with a view to transforming it into a renowned player in the Information Communication Technology, ICT, market.

Galaxy Backbone is an ICT service provider wholly owned by the Federal Government and its vision is to become the leading enabler of digital inclusion in Nigeria and Africa.

Its strategic goal as a state-owned establishment is to facilitate the realization of Nigeria’s e-government vision.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha gave the assurance when a delegation of Galaxy Backbone led by its Managing Director, Prof. Mohammad Abubakar paid him a courtesy visit.

The SGF said that it is the desire of President Muhammadu Buhari before or at the expiration of his administration to ensure that the transition to e-governance is full realized and entrenched.

“We will accelerate the transition to e-governance and Galaxy backbone would play a major role in the progression of the platform for the attainment of our transition”, the SGF said.

Mustapha noted that although power, which is a major factor in sustaining the initiative remains a challenge, yet the government intends to ensure that the narrative changes for the better, thereby making governance paperless.

The Galaxy backbone boss observed that the idea behind the Backbone is to create a central data hub for storing data and information of all tiers of government ministries, departments and agencies.

He explained that the government decided they need to have something internal and that is what brought about the actualization of the Galaxy Backbone.

“So it is going to provide network services, network platforms as well as the necessary hardware’s and storage of the government data which is very important. It will be hosted within the country and also protected. Which is the whole essence of Galaxy Backbone”, he stressed.
