Supreme Court keeps Governors waiting

The wait for the final verdict of the Supreme Court on six governorship seats continues as the apex bank suspended hearing of the appeals of Governors Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and four other governors due to ill health of one of the judges.

Other governors whose appeals were affected by the suspension include, Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Simon Lalong of Plateau State and Samuel Ortom of Benue State.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, who was present in the court said the court would adjourn till Tuesday for the hearing of 13 appeals filed in respect of the governorship tussles.

The CJN abruptly suspended proceedings after indicating that an unnamed member of the seven-man panel was seriously ill.

He subsequently told a packed court that the panel would rise briefly to return later.

About one hour later, instead of the panel returning, an official of the court announced to a disappointed audience that proceedings has been rescheduled for the next day, to enable the court address the problem of the ailing judicial officer.

The identity of the ailing judge was however not made public.
