Determined to ensure security across the country, the Defense Headquarters is mounting a one week long Joint Operations Planning Exercise code named ‘Skylock Exercise’.

184 Participants that were in attendance cut across the Army War College Nigeria, Naval War College Nigeria and Air Force War College Nigeria.

The Commandant of the College, Maj. Gen. Solomom Udounwa disclosed that the event was organized by the Defence Headquarters for the three Services War Colleges at the instance of the Chief of Defence Staff.

He enjoined participants to devote themselves to land, air and maritime services after the 7-day Exercise, noting that the exercise touches on national security, inter-agency coordination, logistics planning, counter terrorism and counter insurgency and stabilization operations.

The Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor expressed delight on his first visitation to the Army War College even as he praised the proficiency of the war college. “As think tanks of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the war colleges are indeed the laboratories and incubations centers for the production of military operational level plans,” Irabor said.

He promised that the product of the Joint Operational Planning Exercise will form part of the military strategic decisions for some ongoing and future operations, to underscore the significance of the exercise.

“Let me stress that you would need to keep an open-mind and take calculated risk as this would be key to your effective functioning in the contemporary complex security environment.

“One area we expect such open-mindedness is in proffering workable solutions to the myriad of security challenges facing the nation, such as in the North, East and other areas affected by insecurity,” said Irabor.
