The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has unveiled a new initiative to enhance airport operations across Nigeria.
His Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood said Keyamo announced the introduction of Special Airport Marshals to monitor staff performance and ensure airports maintain high standards of hygiene and professionalism.
The marshals, who will include representatives from the media, state governments, NGOs, and other stakeholders, will carry out unscheduled inspections at airports nationwide. Their findings will be reported directly to the Minister, creating an independent accountability system alongside official airport management reports.

“This initiative is aimed at improving service delivery and environmental standards at our airports,” the statement read. Keyamo also plans to personally lead monthly inspections alongside ministry officials, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and members of the National Assembly committees on aviation.
The Minister emphasized the importance of transparency, noting that airport managers must be held accountable for using maintenance funds appropriately. Keyamo also aims to engage with airport staff directly during inspections, addressing their concerns and reinforcing the need for courteous service to passengers.
The initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction at Nigerian airports.
