The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has announced the dismissal of Ohieku Salami, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State, citing misconduct and violations of established procedures.
Folashade Boriowo, Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education, said Salami was found guilty of unlawful suspension of the university’s Vice-Chancellor without adhering to prescribed procedures.
“Despite efforts by the ministry to address the situation and formal requests to reverse the suspension, Salami refused to comply and resorted to abusive behavior and misconduct towards ministry officials, including the Permanent Secretary,” the statement by Boriowo read.

Dr. Alausa emphasized that such actions undermine the supervisory role of the ministry and disrupt the university’s governance.
“This conduct is detrimental to the stability and governance of the university. Proper governance must be restored to ensure adherence to law, due process, and accountability,” the minister stated.
The education ministry has initiated the process of appointing a new Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council Chairman to stabilize leadership and restore normalcy at the institution.
This move underscores the government’s commitment to upholding standards in Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
