The Edo State Government has issued a strong warning against unauthorized revenue collection by illegal agents and touts, intensifying its efforts to address the issue.
The announcement came on Monday from the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, in a briefing held in Benin.
Ikhilor stated that the crackdown is a response to growing concerns about unauthorized individuals exploiting residents without official permission. Effective immediately, only licensed and statutory revenue collectors are allowed to operate on behalf of the government, especially in motor parks and economic hubs across Edo State.

To further curb illegal activities, the government has suspended all consultancy services and related service providers within the public sector. Financial dealings with these consultants are to be halted until a review committee, appointed by the governor, submits its findings. This directive mandates strict compliance from all heads of ministries, departments, and agencies.
Ikhilor encouraged residents to report any unauthorized collectors to the police, affirming that offenders will face arrest and prosecution. The government remains committed to safeguarding the welfare and property of Edo citizens.
Credible News recalls that a few hours after his swearing-in as governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo announced key appointments to his new cabinet as he named Musa Ikhilor a lawyer, as the Secretary to the State Government.
The newly sworn-in governor equally named a former member of the House of Representatives, Dr Samson Osagie, as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
Governor Okpebholo picked Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole as the Commissioner for Health.
All the appointments are subject to the approval of the Edo State House of Assembly, as the governor is expected to forward the names of the commissioner nominees to the Assembly.
A press statement endorsed by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okpebholo disclosed that newly appointed SSG “attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained an LL.B in 2008 (Second class Upper Division).
