The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, has sealed two petroleum retail outlets and two gas plants in Delta State for engaging in sharp practices.
The action, which took place between Tuesday and Wednesday, was carried out by the authority’s surveillance team in the Asaba and Ibusa areas.
Mr. Victor Ohwodiasa, the Delta Coordinator of NMDPRA, disclosed that the violations included under-dispensing, operating without valid licenses, and other illegal activities within the facilities. He emphasized that the authority would not tolerate practices where consumers are shortchanged.
“Our mandate is to ensure that every consumer gets what they pay for. There are always slight variations due to mechanical errors in dispensing machines, but once these exceed acceptable limits, we take action,” Ohwodiasa stated.

The NMDPRA has been actively monitoring petroleum retail outlets to maintain fair business practices, especially as the end of the year approaches. Ohwodiasa reiterated that the authority would continue its inspections to ensure that products are available at the correct prices and quantities.
He urged the public to report any suspicious activities, including under-dispensing, poor product quality, illegal bunkering, and unauthorized petroleum operations, to facilitate immediate action by the regulatory body.
