A devastating fire has destroyed the residence of Alhaji Bilyaminu Moriki, Speaker of the Zamfara House of Assembly, in Gusau.
The fire broke out in the early hours of Monday, rapidly consuming large portions of the property. Eyewitnesses reported seeing flames and smoke billowing from the house, prompting immediate calls to emergency services. Despite their swift response, firefighters struggled to contain the blaze due to its intensity and the materials involved in the construction of the residence, which may have contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
A statement by Bello Madaro, Chief Press Secretary to the House explained that the blaze caused extensive damage to properties valued in the millions, though no lives were lost.

Clerk to the Assembly, Mahmud Aliyu, described the incident as tragic, expressing shock and sympathy on behalf of the entire Assembly. “We are deeply saddened by the fire that razed down the speaker’s residence. We offer our heartfelt sympathy to him and his family,” Aliyu said.
He urged the speaker to view the unfortunate event as an act of divine will and prayed for protection against future disasters. Aliyu extended the Assembly’s collective support to the speaker, emphasizing their shared grief over the unfortunate occurrence.
