In a splendid ceremony held at Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, in Osun State, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, celebrated First Lady Oluremi Tinubu by unveiling a golden statue in her honor.
The event took place on Thursday, where the monarch also inaugurated a 2.7-kilometer road named Senator Oluremi Tinubu Way, a grand pavilion, and a monument on the university campus.
Oba Ogunwusi lauded Mrs. Tinubu for her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to education, women’s empowerment, and national unity. He stated, “This golden statue immortalizes her virtuous character and highlights the strength of a teacher, mother, and wife at the core of Obafemi Awolowo University.” The newly constructed pavilion, described as the largest hostel in the university’s history, reflects her dedication to fostering educational spaces.
During the ceremony, Mrs. Tinubu announced a generous donation of N1 billion to OAU for horticultural landscaping and other developmental projects. She emphasized the importance of maintaining existing infrastructure and expressed pride in her alma mater, urging the university to uphold its integrity and enhance its facilities. “We must adopt a culture of maintenance to ensure our institutions thrive,” she stated.

The Deputy Governor of Osun State, Prince Kola Adewusi, who represented Governor Ademola Adeleke, commended Mrs. Tinubu for her significant contributions to society and assured that the state government would continue to support educational initiatives.
In his remarks, Oba Ogunwusi recognized Mrs. Tinubu’s impact through her New Era Foundation, particularly the One Day Governor initiative in Lagos, which empowers young students to step into leadership roles. He praised her efforts in uniting diverse communities and nurturing future generations, saying, “Your advocacy for the rights and opportunities of young girls and women mirrors our ancestors’ belief in uplifting future generations.”
The Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Professor Adeboyo Bamire, also acknowledged Mrs. Tinubu’s contributions as both a former senator and First Lady, assuring her that the university would continue striving for academic excellence and development through collaboration with its alumni.
