People’s Democratic Party, PDP, councilorship candidate for Pari Ward in Kauru Local Government Area, Raymond Timothy and his younger brother, James Timothy, were brutally killed by terrorists on Sunday, while returning from a political campaign in Kizachi village in Kaduna State.
The attack was confirmed by Barnabas Chawai, a PDP chieftain in the council, who stated that the brothers were ambushed and killed as they made their way back to their home in Bakin-Kogi.
Chawai urged security agencies to act swiftly to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further violence, especially as the October 19 local government elections approach. “We need drastic measures to be put in place to forestall further incidents like this,” he said. Mr. Timothy leaves behind a wife who is pregnant with their fourth child and three other children.
John Wanneh, Secretary to the Village Head of Kizachi, who was with the victims just minutes before the attack, described the moment they parted ways. “It was not more than 10 to 15 minutes after we said goodbye when we heard gunshots from a nearby guinea corn farm,” Wanneh recounted.
He also highlighted the community’s challenges, including poor road access and the need for a bridge to facilitate emergency response. “Security operatives are unable to access the village due to the terrible road conditions and the river they cannot cross,” Wanneh added.

Meanwhile, Senator Sunday Katung, representing Southern Kaduna Senatorial District, condemned the attack in a strongly worded statement. He expressed deep concern over the killing of the PDP candidate and his brother, calling the act “barbaric” and “unacceptable.” Katung urged the Kaduna State Government to investigate the security challenges facing Kauru Local Government and provide adequate protection for residents.
“I am deeply saddened by this tragedy,” Katung said. “This kind of politics has no place in a civilized society. The government’s top priority should be the security and welfare of its people, and I call on the Kaduna State Government to take immediate action to ensure the safety of our citizens.”
The attack has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns over the safety of political candidates and residents ahead of the upcoming elections.
