Otunba Benedict Akika, a prominent aide to Governor Seyi Makinde and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, has been kidnapped by gunmen on Wednesday night at his residence in Olohundaaba, Lagelu Local Government Area.
It was reported that Akika was taken from his Idi-Ape home along the Akobo Ojurin-Olohunda road in Ibadan.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident, with Public Relations Officer SP Adewale Osifeso stating that investigations are underway.

“The investigation has begun, and we will provide updates as we progress,” Osifeso said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday.
Eyewitnesses described the abduction as a meticulously planned operation, with gunmen overpowering Akika’s security personnel before fleeing with him. Reports indicate that during the attack, the assailants not only abducted Akika but also shot and killed another individual. The identity of the deceased remains unconfirmed, but the violent act has heightened concerns about security in the area.
