Adejuwon Soyinka, the Regional Editor of The Conversation Africa and a seasoned investigative journalist, has been released.
Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, arrested Soyinka at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
It was reported that a friend of Soyinka had reached out to The Punch in a message saying that Soyinka was arrested. The message read: “Adejuwon Soyinka has been detained by officers of DSS at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The incident happened around 5.40 am on Sunday, the 25th of August, 2024, shortly after he arrived in Nigeria via a Virgin Atlantic flight from the United Kingdom.”

There has been no statement on the reason for Adejuwon Soyinka’s detention. However, a message from a friend has confirmed that Soyinka has been released by the DSS, who had detained him at their Ikoyi office.
The friend disclosed that the DSS seized Soyinka’s passport. “He has been released. They held onto his passport. He was released from their Ikoyi office”, the message read.
