Erudite retired Supreme Court Judge Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola has passed on before his 91st birthday.
His last major national assignment was a stint as Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission.
He passed on in the evening of Tuesday 20 August 2024 at exactly 6.33 pm. Family source said he passed on peacefully without any ailment.

His last son Leke Ayoola was at his bedside when he breathed his last. His demise was announced by the family.
Justice Ayoola was a highly respected legal guru known for his brilliance, integrity, and commitment to justice. He served the nation with distinction, leaving an indelible mark on the judiciary. Justice Ayoola’s contributions to the development of Nigerian law and jurisprudence will be deeply missed.
President Bola Tinubu celebrated Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, renowned jurist and retired Supreme Court justice, on his 90th birthday in October, 2023. President Tinubu described the foremost retired justice as a trailblazer and a fine example of integrity and honour in Nigeria’s judiciary.
Justice Ayoola retired from the Supreme Court in 2003. He served as the Chief Justice of the Gambia from 1983 to 1992 and was Vice President of the World Judges Association in 1991.
