Victor Boniface to return for Bayer Leverkusen in German Cup Semifinal

Nigerian international striker Victor Okoh Boniface is set to return to action after a three-month injury-enforced absence for Bayer Leverkusen in today’s German Cup semi-final against Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Coach Xabi Alonso confirmed Boniface’s expected return ahead of the cup game.

Boniface missed the last Africa Cup of Nations held in January and February in Cote d’Ivoire due to an injury sustained just before the competition began. The 23-year-old underwent surgery for an adductor muscle injury in January and has been undergoing rehabilitation since then.

“We are in a super situation. We have no injuries and a full squad. Boni (Boniface) is also back in the squad,” Alonso told a press conference, with the Bundesliga leaders in the hunt for three trophies this season.

When asked how long Boniface could play in the game, Alonso responded: “Not 90 minutes. 45, maybe not. But perhaps 30. He made a good recovery and trained well. He has a strong motivation to return. He can’t wait to be back.”

Before his injury, Boniface had 10 goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga.
