Russia sees Nigeria as key partner in Africa – Lavrov

Russia considers Nigeria as a core partner in Africa, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday.

Lavrov stated this at a meeting with his Nigerian counterpart Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, saying “we consider Nigeria as a priority partner on the African continent.”

He explained that Russia and the countries of the Global South and the Global East share the same approaches in terms of eliminating injustice from international relations and establishing equality and balance of interests in full compliance with the principles of the UN Charter.

Tuggar, who disclosed President Bola Tinubu’s intention to visit Russia in the near future, mentioned that he was acting on the instruction of the president to be in the meeting.

“He is very much looking forward to also visiting Russia soon,” Tuggar said at a joint news conference after the meeting with Lavrov.

Tuggar is paying a working visit to Moscow from March 5 to 7.
