Nigerian comedy icon, Mr Ibu dies at 62 after battle with blood clot

Veteran actor John Okafor, widely known as Mr Ibu has passed on. 

He succumbed to health complications after a prolonged battle with blood clotting on his leg.The beloved actor passed away on Saturday, March 2, in a Lagos hospital.

Mr. Ibu encountered persistent challenges with blood clotting due to diseased blood vessels, enduring various health issues throughout the years. In October 2023, he appealed for financial aid to address his illness, initially intending to seek medical treatment abroad. However, doctors deemed him unsuitable for international travel, eliminating the overseas treatment option.

As his health worsened, Mr. Ibu underwent the amputation of his leg in November 2023, marking a difficult phase in his fight against the debilitating condition. At the time of his passing, the esteemed actor was 62 years old.

Mr. Ibu’s remarkable talent for portraying humorous characters in movies has made a lasting impact on the Nigerian entertainment industry. His passing has left his family, including his wife and children, mourning his loss. Additionally, his departure has created a void in the hearts of fans who appreciated his ability to bring laughter to the screen with his unique performances.

Despite his passing, the legacy of Mr. Ibu will live on through the memorable characters he portrayed during his illustrious career.
