The federal government has announced plans to reform the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to make it a revenue-generating agency.
The disclosure was made by Minister of Youth Development Jamila Bio-Ibrahim while in an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program.
The minister went on to say that the NYSC program was being reformed by the federal government to better reflect the current state of affairs in the country.
She went on to say that they all recognize that resources are limited and emphasized that they will come up with creative solutions to make sure the welfare of corps members is well-cared for.

As per her statement, “The reforms will turn the NYSC into a revenue-generating organization and equip the corps members with all the necessary support to be decently and profitably employed in the job market or to be labor employers through entrepreneurship.”
She also disclosed that corps members were no longer posted to states deemed unsafe in the wake of worsening insecurity in the country.
The minister explained that the security of corps members required collaboration with other agencies of government.
