Police arrest arms dealer, recover weapons in Anambra State

In a significant breakthrough, the Anambra State Police Command has successfully apprehended a major arms dealer engaged in illegal activities related to prohibited firearms.

This accomplishment follows weeks of dedicated surveillance conducted by the operatives of the police command.

The State police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, provided details of the operation in a statement on Saturday, revealing that the breakthrough led to the interception of a gun-running syndicate.

The operation resulted in the confiscation of 23 automatic action guns and 625 live cartridges from the syndicate.

According to Ikenga, the police had been meticulously monitoring the activities of the arms dealer, leading to the successful arrest and subsequent recovery of the illegal firearms.

The operation focused on dismantling the activities of the syndicate and curbing the proliferation of prohibited firearms in the state.

He further disclosed that three suspects were apprehended in Onitsha during the operation, and the investigation is currently being expanded to identify and address any potential connections or networks involved in the illegal arms trade.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, expressed commendation for the operatives involved in the successful operation.

The commendation came on the instruction of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who provided guidance and oversight for the operation.

The police’s decisive action in dismantling the arms dealer’s operations and intercepting the gun-running syndicate is a crucial step in enhancing public safety and maintaining law and order in Anambra State.
