In a remarkable achievement, popular musician Saheed Osupa has been awarded a Bachelor’s Degree by the University of Ibadan ,UI, during its 2023 Convocation Ceremony.
Osupa, whose real name is Akorede Babatunde Okunola, earned his degree in Political Science with Second Class Honours in the Upper Division.
Expressing his gratitude, Osupa commended the university for providing comprehensive training in his field, emphasizing its role in helping him maximize his potential. He shared that the academic accomplishment has brought a sense of fulfillment to his life, filling a void he previously felt.
In a lecture delivered at the ceremony, Dr. Osasuyi Dirisu, an alumnus of UI and Executive Director of the Policy Innovation Centre in Abuja, encouraged the graduands not to be discouraged by failures. Dirisu emphasized that failure is a stepping stone to personal growth and urged them to embrace a purpose-driven outlook in life, emphasizing internal validation over external approval.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, expressed pride in the graduands’ achievements, noting that they have been found worthy both in character and learning. He highlighted the significance of the occasion, not only as a celebration of graduation but also as part of the University of Ibadan’s 75th anniversary.
Adebowale praised the university’s rich history, contributions to service delivery, community service, education, and research over the years.

It’s a time to take stock of all the incredible contributions the University of Ibadan has made over the years to research, education, learning, and community service both in Nigeria and around the world.
“Despite challenging circumstances, limited funding, and harsh economic realities, our university has made significant progress. Adebowale declared, “We are incredibly proud of our rich heritage, culture, tradition, and values.
“Our University has come a long way in the face of economic realities, harsh conditions and dwindling resources. We are immensely proud of our rich heritage, culture, tradition, and values,” Adebowale said.
Saheed Osupa’s academic feat adds a new dimension to his multifaceted career, showcasing the importance of lifelong learning and personal growth.
