In a reassuring update, the Independent National Electoral Commission , INEC, in Bayelsa has confirmed that the Supervisory Presiding Officer , SPO, who was abducted on Friday has been freed.
The SPO, whose name was not disclosed, was abducted by gunmen while waiting at Amassoma Jetty to board a boat to the Registration Area Centre – 06 ,Ossioma,in Sagbama Local Government Area.
Wilfred Ifogah, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity of the state INEC in Yenagoa, conveyed the positive news in a statement on Saturday.
The release of the abducted officer brings relief to the electoral process, and details about the circumstances of his release were not immediately provided.
The spokesman for the Police Command in the state, CSP Asinim Butswat, was unavailable for comments at the time of reporting.
The incident had raised concerns about the safety of election officials and underscored the security challenges faced during electoral processes in certain regions.
