The Sokoto State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal on Saturday affirmed that Ahmed Aliyu was duly elected as governor of the state.
The Tribunal dismissed the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Saidu Umar challenging the victory of the APC and its candidate, Ahmed Aliyu in the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the State.
The three-man panel of Judges led by Justice Haruna Mshelia held that the petitioners failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.
It was gathered that journalists, who arrived at the court premises as early as 7:00am on Saturday morning were subjected to strict security checks, as the court premises was being manned by heavily armed security personnel making access to the courtroom a very difficult task. Journalists not working for state government media houses were not allowed into the chamber of the Sokoto State High Court complex venue of the Tribunal.
A DSS personnel while addressing the press at the court said only journalists working for the state owned media and that of the Nigeria Television Authority, NTA, will be allowed into the court chamber.
