Army buries soldiers killed in Niger

The Nigerian Army has laid to rest the remains of no fewer than 20 officers and soldiers killed in action by terrorists in Niger State at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.

Last week three officers and 22 soldiers were killed in an ambush by terrorists around Zungeru general area in Niger State last week.

Again, a NAF MI-171 Helicopter crashed on August 14 2023 at about 1pm near Chukuba village of Shiroro LGA  Niger State while on an evacuation mission.

The aircraft victims crashed with 14 soldiers previously killed in action and seven soldiers wounded in action, bringing the casualty figure to 36 killed in action.

The remains of 16 others had already been buried at various locations across the country.

Credible News reports that the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, and his counterpart for State, Bello Matawalle, as well as the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, were at the burial.

Other dignitaries present include the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Yakubu Garba; the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja; Chief of Naval Staff, Emmanuel Ogalla; families and relatives of the fallen heroes, among others.
