Former NBA President, Akpata eyes Edo governor’s seat

The former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Olumide Akpata has resigned from Templars, a leading law firm where he served as Senior Partner to contest governorship election in Edo State.

Credible News reports that his resignation came weeks after he joined the Labour Party and expressed interest to throw his hat in the ring.

The firm explained that Apata formally notified the other partners and management of his decision to participate in active politics and in line with the firm’s governance protocols, it was agreed that he stepped aside from the firm with effect from Thursday, August 31, 2023.

Credible News reports that the lawyer had joined Labour Party in March but recently attended his first Ward Meeting at Oredo Ward 6, in Benin-City, where he was formally introduced to members of the Ward and presented his Party membership card.

“This was a major step for me and not one that I took lightly…but I simply got tired of complaining about Nigeria every day and bemoaning her fate and I decided to take the plunge and to try to be part of the solution rather than agonizing continually over the problem.

“This, for me, is the start of a very important journey, and it is my prayer that I arrive safely at my destination”, the former NBA President stated.
