Nigerians await Tinubu’s broadcast amidst hardship

President Bola Tinubu will address Nigerians today at 7pm, his Special Adviser on Strategy, Communication and Special Duties, Dele Alake announced this in a statement on Monday morning.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will make a broadcast to the nation on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 7 pm.

“Television, radio stations and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast”, the terse statement read.

The broadcast is expected to touch on the rising inflation and economic hardship as a result of the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit, known better as petrol, and its accompanying effect on the cost of living of Nigerians.

Credible News recalls that Tinubu at his swearing-in on May 29 pronounced an end to fuel subsidy after several attempts to remove the subsidy by past administrations triggered protests and stiff resistance

The elimination of fuel subsidies in Nigeria represents a significant shift in the country’s economic policy. While the intention may be to address fiscal challenges and encourage market-driven pricing, experts have expressed concer s on its impact on inflation, transportation costs and livelihood.

Credible News reports that this will be the President’s second broadcast since he assumed office. He addressed the nation on 12 June to mark the 2023 Democracy Day.
