APC National Chairman disowns list of principal officers at NASS

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Adamu has disowned the list of principal officers announced by the leadership of the two chambers of the National Assembly on Tuesday, seemingly throwing the ruling party into a needless controversy.

Adamu, at a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee and Progressives Governors’ Forum in Abuja said the National Assembly breached protocol by announcing the principal officers without the knowledge of the party.

By convention, the party is expected to send the name of the principal officers to the leadership of the National Assembly.  Adamu suggested that this was not the case, indicating a deeply divided ruling party in the early days of the Bola Tinubu-led administration.

Credible News reports that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas had earlier today announced their principal officers.

Akpabio announced Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central, as Majority Leader, and Former Ebonyi State Governor, Senator Dave Umahi, representing Ebonyi South, as the Deputy Majority Leader of the 10th Senate along with other principal officers.

While Abbas named Rep. Julius Ihonvbere, representing Owan Federal Constituency of Edo State, as the Majority leader and Rep. Kingsley Chinda representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency of Rivers State as the Minority Leader also along with other principal officers.
