Snake kills Kiriku, ISWAP Commander

A field commander of the Islamic State of West African Province, ISWAP, Kiriku has reportedly died in Borno state.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, disclosed that Kiriku died three days after  a snake-bite incident in one of ISWAP’s hideouts in Damboa LGA,Borno state.

Makama noted that Kiriku sustained the the snake bite injury on Tuesday, but died on Friday as a result of his inability to access treatment.

Before his demise, Kiriku reportedly
led many attacks and ambushes against troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno, and operated within the Jiddari axis of Chiralia in the Timbuktu triangle — a Boko Haram/ISWAP stronghold.

The Timbuktu triangle stretches over four council areas —Damboa, Jere, Kaga, Konduga— and Gujba LGA in Yobe state.
