The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Makurdi zonal office, late on Tuesday evening released the former Governor of Benue State after grilling him for over nine hours.
Credible News reports that the ex-governor who was invited by the anti-graft body for questioning and drove into the premises of the EFCC located at the Gondo Aluor street at exactly 10:08am left there at about 7:56pm.
Ortom’s media aide, Mr. Terver Akase, said that contrary to insinuations in some sections of the mass media, Ortom was not arrested but only honoured the commission’s invitation.
“Ortom was neither arrested nor detained at the EFCC Zonal Headquarters in Makurdi”, Akase said.
He added that the former governor has nothing to hide and would always be available for questioning by the anti-graft agency.
Credible News recalls that Ortom during his cabinet valedictory session held at the old banquet hall of Government House, Makurdi had urged his council members not to entertain any fear whenever the EFCC invites them for questioning.
He had told his cabinet members that he is not a coward to run away from the EFCC whenever his attention will be needed.
