EFCC seizes Onyema’s travel documents

In a bid to tighten its grip on the investigation of the alleged fraud leveled against Allen Onyema, the Chairman of Air Peace, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has ceased his international passports and ordered restriction of his movement.A source in the Commission disclosed to the Nation newspaper that: “Following his interaction with our detectives, it became imperative to restrict his movement to the country because we will need him from time to time”.Onyema was charged with 27 counts of money laundering by one United States Attorney Byung J. Pak.Byung said Onyema moved more than $20 million from Nigeria through United States bank accounts in a scheme involving false documents based on the purchase of airplane.The US court has since then issued a warrant to arrest Onyema and authorized US marshals service to bring him into custody.The source also said that: “During our interaction, he maintained his innocence. We have, however, made progress in our preliminary investigation”.When asked whether Onyema would be extradited to the US, the source said: “This depends on the MLAT between Nigeria and the US. For now, we are only investigating”.
