Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Prof. James Apam, has announced the death of an unnamed ad-hoc electoral officer in a boat mishap in Ibaji Local Government Area.

The deceased, a student of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, was engaged for the governorship election but died while on election duty on Saturday, noting that arrangements have been made to convey his body to Lokoja.

Meanwhile, the 30 staff of INEC who were declared missing earlier in Kogi, following violent attacks at their duty posts in Saturday’s governorship election in Kogi State, have been found.

Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, said the staff are safe and sound. “We can now confirm that all the 30 ad-hoc staff engaged for the 2019 Kogi governorship election and posted to polling units 002, 006 and 013 at Olamaboro III; and polling units 006, 012, 015, 016, 022 at Imani 1 all in Olamaboro Local Government Area have been accounted for.  They are safe, sound and back in their respective homes.
