Nigeria losses $15bn to tax evasion

by CredibleNews

Nigeria may be losing about $15 billion every year to tax evaders, the Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr. Babatunde Fowler has hinted.
Fowler, while opening a seminar organised by West Africa Tax Administration Forum, in Abuja, said the increasing mobility of income and assets have created a major challenge for tax administration in the sub-region.
He said Nigeria has demonstrated commitment to improve transparency around tax matters with the signing of a declaration, as well as joining the Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement on automatic exchange of financial account information in 2017.
The seminar is being attended by tax administrators from Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea.
