No worker has been sacked in Kwara

by CredibleNews

The Kwara State Government has not sacked any workers contrary to rumours that some categories of workers employed by the immediate past administration have been laid off.

The Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Agboola Olarewaju in a statement explained that  workers who where employed two or three weeks ago but was backdated to November 2018 “ have not been captured on government’s payroll” and were excluded in the paynent of salary for May.

“Those appointments are called ‘sunset’ appointments (appointments made by a governor/administration on the eve of departure). Instead of summary sack what government resolved to do is to look at their qualifications and ascertain if they are fit to be employed.

“In Ogun, Bauchi and some other states, ‘sunset’ employees were sacked with immediate effect, we wondered why they were not employed until a few weeks to the expiration of the former administration’s tenure,” he disclosed.

The statement explained that the ‘sunset workers’ have not been sacked and that their employment status will be regularised in due course.
