A Diamond 42 trainer plane owned by the International Aviation College, Ilorin, has crashed at the Ilorin Airport. Eyewitness accounts said the twin engine craft landed on its belly shortly after mid day on Wednesday because the landing gear failed to descend.
Its two occupants, student-pilot Rihan and her instructor, Captain Mohammed, came out unscathed. The wreck was pulled off the tarmac within four hours prompting the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria to resume operations immediately.
Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed arrived Ilorin from Abuja in a chartered aircraft about 6 pm and headed straight to the college apparently to get first hand information on the incident.
Trainees were apprehensive last night that the loss of the craft, one of the four serviceable in the college’s fleet, may delay the final certification of many students.
