Smarting from his hard-won victory at the polls, President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to begin a two-week vacation on Friday. He is going to the United Kingdom to have some rest and see his doctors for a routine medical check-up.
Presidential spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina was unable to confirm the President’s departure date but he said his boss deserves some rest after a stormy electioneering campaign which took him to all the 36 states.
President Buhari, in a departure from 2015, has put the transition train on the fast lane with the approval of two committees – the 2019 Presidential Inauguration Committee and the Policies, Programmes and Projects Audit Committee. The two have 30 members including the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha.
The two ‘transition vehicles’ have several prominent ministers on board, indicative of their high rating and likelihood of return in the new cabinet. While politicians have started jostling for recognition, the President is keeping his cards close to his chest, as usual. He is expected to ponder on the shape of his new cabinet while in the UK.
A credible source told CREDIBLE NEWS last night that the SGF, Boss Mustapha, may move closer to the seat of power as the chief of staff even as the President considers bringing younger people into his cabinet. sdlock
