President Muhammadu Buhari has served notice that his second term will take off on a fast lane with the constitution of two powerful committees this week. The presidential panels may also have given an insight to the colour and composition of his new cabinet.
Tomorrow, Thursday, 14 March, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha will inaugurate the 2019 Presidential Inauguration Committee to herald President Buhari’s coronation on May 29.
The Permanent Secretary, General Services, at the OSGF, Mr. Olusegun Adekunle said the 16-member panel will plan, organize and execute all approved activities for the 2019 Presidential Inauguration. It will also document all planned activities for the event while ensuring a successful implementation of the programme.
This Friday, the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo will inaugurate the Policies, Programmes and Projects Audit Committee and also lead the panel which has 14 other members. They include the Chief of Staff to the President; the Head of Civil Service of the Federation and ministers in charge of Budget and National Planning; Finance; Power, Works and Housing; Industry, Trade and Investment; Transportation; Agriculture and Rural Development as well as Water Resources.
Others are the Attorney General of the Federation; the Central Bank Governor; the National Security Adviser; the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office and the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President.
The committee, according to Mr. Adekunle is expected to audit and determine the status of implementation of policies, programmes and projects either inherited or commenced by the present administration; identify and highlight a residue of works and challenges that may militate against their successful implementation; and prepare and produce a detailed working document that would guide the incoming cabinet members on the direction of Government regarding policies, programmes and projects.
The membership of this committee may be a clue to the composition of President Buhari’s new cabinet with the inclusion of incumbent ministers expected to be a bridge between the old and new cabinet. ):A(t,n,r)}
